One study was published in the Journal of Intensive Care Medicine and the results showed increased chances of death in case of magnesium deficiency and it also led to different health problems and diseases.
Magnesium is utilized also as a prevention, but sadly ½ the people in America have magnesium deficiency. It is a mineral with the most powerful relaxation properties; it can promote sleep and can be used as a stress medication.
Doctors subscribe and give magnesium for many conditions, even though they do not know the real reason for that. It is used in case of constipation, in preparation for colonoscopy; they give their patients a green bottle of liquid magnesium citrate or milk of magnesia, and in case of life-threatening arrhythmia.
It is also used in high doses for pregnant women, intravenously, in case of seizures, high blood pressure of pregnancy (pre-eclampsia) or in pre-term labor.
Magnesium has the power to relax the body, so lack of magnesium in the body can result with cramps, stiffness, tightness or irritation.
Magnesium takes part in over 300 enzyme reactions and it is present in every tissue in the body, but the highest concentration of magnesium is found in the muscles, bones and the brain. Due to this, it is essential for membrane stability, energy, muscle relaxation and the proper function of chemical pumps.
It is very common to have magnesium deficiency and this leads to various health problems. But sadly, people do not take measures to prevent this.
Here are some of the symptoms of magnesium deficiency:
- Anal spasms
- Chronic fatigue
- High blood pressure
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Irritable bladder
- Kidney stones
- Muscle cramps or twitches
- Menstrual cramps
- Sensitivity to loud noises
- Trouble swallowing
Increased CPR levels and inflammation are also a result of magnesium deficiency.
A lot of people have magnesium deficiency, 65% of them are sent to the intensive care unit, and about 15% of people around the world have this health problem.
The reason for magnesium deficiency is that the modern lifestyle and diet do not have sufficient magnesium intake, and the food is rich in highly processed and refined meat, meaning it contains more products such as dairy, meat and white flour. And the healthy food like sea vegetables, greens, nuts, beans are not often present in our diet.
Also magnesium deficiency can occur as a result of intestinal parasites, excessive menstruation, profuse sweating, chronic diarrhea, intense and prolonged stress, phosphoric acid in colas, excess use of coffee, salt and alcohol, and diuretics and antibiotics use. One study which was conducted in Kosovo proved that the high amount of magnesium in urine can be lost as a result of chronic war stress.
Magnesium is also lost very easily from the body and the absorption is very poor, so it needs help from selenium, vitamin D and B6 to aid its absorption.
Another scientific review gave a conclusion which said that it is very unfortunate to have a deficiency is such an essential mineral which is not toxic and is cheap and it is left unattended leading to numerous diseases that put us to much higher expenses and suffering everywhere in the world.
Luckily there are many simple ways in which you can treat magnesium deficiency and here are some of them:
- Do not use medications like high blood pressure pills and diuretics because they cause magnesium deficiency.
- Reduce your consummation of alcohol, sugar, salt, colas and coffee.
- Practice active relaxation.
- Eat more food which is abundant in magnesium like greens, dandelion, barley, shrimp, collard greens, dates, rice, tofu, walnuts, pecans, filberts, Brazil nuts, buckwheat, cashews, wheat germ, wheat bran, kelp, avocado, rye, millet, dulse, soy beans, almonds, garlic, figs and parsley.
- Prepare an Epsom salts bath
- Consume magnesium supplements
It is also recommended to combine more mineral together.
These are the best forms magnesium citrate, aspatate or glycinate taurate and also magnesium connected to Kreb cycle chelates (fumarate, succinate, malate). Do not consume magnesium oxide, gluconate, sulfate and carbonate because they cannot be absorbed well.
The recommended daily amount of magnesium is 300 mg a day, but sadly most people only intake less than 200mg. but other people have higher intake of 400 to 1,000 md every day.
In case you have serious heart disease or a kidney disease, you need to talk to your doctor before taking magnesium supplements on your own.
Magnesium helps your body to relax, so in case you have magnesium deficiency you must take some measure in order to protect and improve your health.
