Most people have abdominal fat that they just can’t get rid of. Having a lot of excess fat in the abdominal area raises the risk of heart diseases, diabetes and other health issues, which is why researchers are trying their best to find a way to easily get rid of this fat.
Humans have two types of fats: white and brown. By knowing which type of fat you have, it is easier to dispose of them. The white fat layer is thinner and is usually found around the stomach, hands and thighs. It has a role of a thermic isolator which maintains body temperature. The brown fatty layer on the other hand, burns calories to warm up the body and to maintain thermoregulation.
Studies have shown that exposing the fat cells to cold, helps eliminate them.
Long years of study have shown that exposing fat cells to cold, helps eliminate them better. This is why scientists recommend lowering the temperature of our homes for a few hours during the winter period.
Scientists have also found that the fatty layer around the abdomen and thighs turns brown in winter, meaning that cold stimulates the transformation of white fats to be brown, therefore, making the fat easier to burn.
In other words, lowering the temperature of homes from 21 degrees to 17-15 during the night, makes our body burn calories for maintaining a proper body temperature.
In another study, a group of participants were sleeping in a metabolic room of 18 degrees. After spending a month under these conditions, the amount of brown fat in their bodies had doubled, while also increasing their insulin sensitivity.
This treatment is called “Cold Thermogenesis”
-- Moderate Cold Thermogenesis consists of sitting in a 10-15 degrees room wearing summer clothes.
-- Intensive Cold Thermogenesis consists of wearing sweaters and jeans filled with ice. This causes even more tremor and fat burning.
Therapy for fast burning of calories
Author Tim Ferris in his book “Four-hour Body” describes the concept of burning brown fat layer by exposing it to low temperatures. He claims that the potential of burning fats can be increased up to 300% by implementing an ice therapy, aside from healthy diet and exercise.
This statement has been confirmed by NASA Astronaut that stated how the human metabolism speeds up for 20% when someone is staying in a room that is exactly or below 15 degrees.
90 grams brown fat layer can burn around 500 calories a day witch is the same as exercising intensively for 1 hour.
Freezing the layer of fat in specific body parts:
Researchers have discovered that the burning of fat can be stimulated with cold layers applied on specific parts from the body for 30-60 minutes. This stimulates the process of transforming white fat layers into brown and therefore, burning weight. The results are even better if this treatment is combined with healthy diet and exercise.
This method cools down the skin and causes the fat layers to be flushed out of the body.
How to use cold layers
Wrap the ice in a towel and place it on the part from the body which you want to treat. Hold the ice in the towel for 30-60 minutes. Repeat this treatment 1-2 times a day for 12 days straight.
The only bad sides of this treatment are frosted. You have to be extremely careful when using ice and cold layers. While doing this treatment, regularly check the skin every few minutes to prevent a frost from appearing.
Symptoms of frost are:
- Redness and pain
- Losing the feeling of touch
If you notice any of these symptoms, do not warm up or massage that part of the body, but use a blanket to slowly warm it up.
People who use beta-blockers and those who have periphery vascular illnesses, smokers, diabetics should be extremely careful.
