The most important meal of the day is breakfast in the morning, confirmed by many nutritionists. It gives your body plenty of energy to start the day with and during the day and it also activates the metabolism. It is very important especially for people who are on a diet, because if they skip breakfast they will feel cravings during the day.
The Annals of Nutrition & Metabolism published a study which showed that oatmeal is the best thing to eat for breakfast. 36 women and men participated in the study and they were separated in three groups. The limit for calorie intake was 350 calories for all 3 groups. The first group ate oatmeal for breakfast; the second group had cornflakes and the third group just drank water. Everyone had to note down their satiety level in the first 3 hours after breakfast. And they also checked their blood to observe the levels of insulin and blood sugar. Lunch was the same for everyone.
Results showed that the first group with oatmeal breakfast, had the least craving of all and for lunch they ate 31% less calories than the others. It is also very beneficial for obese people to eat oatmeal breakfast because they ate 50% less calories for lunch.
The participants in the second group were hungry again, just three hours after breakfast. Same situation was notice in the third group, those who just drank water.
Oatmeal is so beneficial because it can stay longer time in the stomach, as compared to cornflakes which pass through and only increase the levels of blood glucose and then the levels drop suddenly.
Many other studies have also proved the same theory – that oatmeal is the best thing to consume for breakfast and it will also reduce the calorie intake for 31-50% and due to that it is very helpful for losing weight. It also has a long-lasting effect.
Oats are very tasty besides being very healthy. It can also be added in almost every meal as a side dish, salad, or stew. Oats can also be added in different healthy desserts.
